Speaker: Duane Jonlin, City of Seattle Building energy codes can be daunting in their size and complexity, with model codes continually evolving to capture design improvements, greater efficiency, and affordability, while multiple editions can lead to a patchwork of adopted codes across the country. This webinar outlines the structure and effective use of these codes for architects, highlighting new and significant provisions that impact architectural design and cost. Specific topics include air tightness, glazing area, alterations, and the use of renewables, as well as possible trends for future codes. Duane Jonlin, FAIA, is the Energy Codes Advisor for the City of Seattle. He is a voting member of the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and IECC development committees, and serves on several regional advisory boards. Prior to joining the City of Seattle, he had 30 years' experience as a technical architect for large institutional projects. Jonlin has architectural degrees from the University of Washington and the University of Michigan, and was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in 2016.
