Are You High Status?

As'salaam Alaykom Aridhi Abdelkrim,

Are you high status?

Among your friends, family, and peers are you the person they see as their leader?

Or are you a follower?

I am asking this question because I have spent the last year studying the human brain.

I have read countless books, attended many courses, and spoken to the scientists themselves.

I would like to act like I did this for my students.

No, I did not.

I did this for myself. To train my brain to make me the best at everything I want to be the best at.

I found out a lot.

First off, I found out the brain loves when you reach high status among your peers.

It loves it because instinctively, low status is dangerous.

Low status for much of human history meant you were a slave or you were expendable among your peers.

Even today, kids divide themselves into status groups at school and bully the low-status kids.

Not the best feeling to be bullied, right?

Therefore, when we reach a higher status, our brains release a chemical in our brains called serotonin.

Serotonin feels amazing.

When we experience something that causes us to go low status, our brains release cortisol.

Cortisol feels awful.

When you are high status, you have the CHOICE of many things.

In any field, the highest status individual is paid the most and enjoys the best spouse and usually the best children.

Again, best spouse, money, and children. That would feel good.

Tomorrow, in sha Allah, I'm going to talk about ways people think they increase their status, but it always leads to lower status.

Regards,
Omar
