Photo from Tweedie Doe, DOE | The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy is hosting a free webinar on jobs and economic development from tribal energy projects today, June 26, 2019, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Mountain Time. Among the benefits of energy project development to tribal communities are the jobs and economic development that come with local investment. This webinar will share tools and methods tribes can use to estimate the jobs and broader economic benefits of energy projects. The webinar will also feature case studies from tribes that have successfully created jobs and economic development through energy development, including a project we recently highlighted on the Office of Indian Energy blog: the Spokane Indian Housing Authority's Children of the Sun Solar Initiative, which is halfway through the installation of a $2-million solar initiative, funded in part by the Office of Indian Energy, that will both increase resilience to environmental threats and promote sovereignty for the Tribe in the form of energy independence. When completed this summer, the initiative will add 650 kilowatts of solar capacity to tribal buildings and save the community an estimated $2.8 million over the next 30 years. Speakers include: - Gail Mosey, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
- Clyde Abrahamson, Spokane Indian Housing Authority
- Tim Willink, GRID Alternatives
- Ray Wiseman, Yakima Power.
